An Uncontested Strength

First and foremost, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the entire TBO team and all the volunteers who generously devoted their time and energy throughout the year. It is their passion and support that have allowed us to achieve our goals and continue our research projects. A special thanks also goes to our partners, donors, and sponsors, whose continued trust has been essential to the success of our projects. Many of them have been supporting us for a long time, and this constant support is of crucial importance.

It is thanks to the commitment of this community and the support of all the people and organizations around us that we have been able to carry out our scientific research. Your involvement enables the observatory to gain media exposure and play an increasingly central role in the study of avian biodiversity in Quebec and bird migration. By uniting our efforts around this shared passion, we help grow TBO every year.

Objectives Achieved in 2024

Our objectives were multifaceted, whether it was to continue our research projects, enhance our communication efforts with a focus on raising awareness, or train the biologists of tomorrow. As in our early days, our priority was to track bird migration through several strategic sites in order to analyze demographic trends of Arctic and Boreal species. At the same time, we aim to introduce a broad and diverse audience to the ornithological richness of Quebec by sharing the results of the research conducted at the observatory, particularly through the development of collaborations and student projects.

We also place great importance on raising public awareness about bird migration issues and biodiversity conservation, to emphasize the importance of protecting our environment. In this approach, we encourage young enthusiasts by providing job opportunities in the environmental field, as well as offering enriching field training and educational activities.

Finally, we aim to contribute to the development of the Côte-Nord’s tourism and socio-economic appeal by highlighting the richness of its ecosystems. Well-known for its whales and landscapes, the region has once again demonstrated its ability to attract an exceptional diversity. With over 1,200 participants in 2024, the Côte-Nord Migratory Bird Festival attracts more and more enthusiasts each year and was a great success.

New Objectives for 2025

For the year 2025, we will focus our efforts on developing a realistic strategic plan that will promote the growth of our educational and tourism activities to better showcase the exceptional biodiversity of the Haute-Côte-Nord (HCN). This plan will build on reflections and actions that have been underway for several years, enabling us to become more resilient by diversifying our sources of revenue. We aim to continue tracking bird migration and deepen our research on Arctic and Boreal species to better understand their demographic trends with our partners.

We will also implement initiatives to share the ornithological wealth of Quebec with an increasingly broad and diverse audience through artistic and tourism collaborations. Public awareness of bird migration issues and biodiversity conservation remains a priority. As part of this plan, which we will unveil by the end of the year, we will continue to offer environmental job opportunities to young enthusiasts, while contributing to the tourism and socio-economic growth of the Côte-Nord region.
